This year marks our second year of partnership with Howei, where a dedicated group of our high school runners participate in weekly training sessions to learn the art of guide running. These young volunteers are preparing to guide visually impaired runners at the Penang Bridge International Marathon on 14 December 2025.

Through this meaningful collaboration, our children are learning that true celebration comes from serving others. Embodying the spirit of compassion that lies at the heart of both Deepavali and our Ashrama's mission.

About Ramakrishna Ashrama, Penang

The Ramakrishna Ashrama, Penang is a Charitable Organisation founded in 1938 under the inspiration and guidance of His Holiness Swami Bhaswarananda Ji, who was then stationed in the Ramakrishna Mission, Singapore.

For over 85 years, we have been a home of hope and care, currently sheltering 30 boys and 20 girls, ages 7 to 20 years, in our Orphanage. These children have lost one or both parents and come from broken families who are poor and needy. They require our support for food, shelter, education, and proper care so they can grow up to be useful citizens.

Our Work in the Community

The children in the Home receive:

• Proper education and care that prepares them for a brighter future
• Training in tailoring, embroidery, cooking, and housekeeping for the girls
• Education and rehabilitation, including care during past festivals and throughout the year

Our Broader Mission: The Executive Council of the Ramakrishna Ashrama has supported numerous charitable causes and contributed to the public good across all communities. The Ministry of Welfare Services, Malaysia, also partially subsidises the Orphanage.

This Deepavali - A Special Appeal

While Hindu children in normal homes celebrate this joyous festival, let us not forget the less fortunate children in the Orphanage.

This Deepavali, we humbly appeal to you, kind-hearted members of the general public, to spare a thought and donate whatever amount you wish to help these children experience the joy and dignity of the Festival of Lights.

Your generous contributions will help us:

• Provide nutritious festive meals for all 50 children in our care
• Gift new clothes to bring smiles and restore dignity during this auspicious celebration
• Ensure no child is left behind during this Festival of Lights

• RM50 can provide festive meals for several children
• RM100 can gift new clothes to children in need
• RM150 can support one child for a month
• RM200 or more can provide festive meals and new attire for multiple children
• Any amount you wish brings light and joy to these children
